Arabic Music

There are different types of music that represent various cultures around the world. For example, The United States represents a variety of cultures through its music; Indian music has distinguishing characteristics; and the Arabic culture reflects its unique culture through its music.

Arabic music has been around for hundreds of years and has evolved during this time. It contains a variety of sounds that sprouted into various genres and styles. These genres and styles can be classified into various categories that identify the year they were established, the area where they originated, instruments used to make the music, and other characteristics.

Arabic music has influenced many cultures such as Greece, India, Persia, Assyria, Turkey and some other European areas. Different kinds of Arabic music can be classified from the Pre-Ismamic period, Al-Andalus, Sixteenth Century or Female Harem. Arabic music has distinguishable characteristics that set it apart from other kinds of music. This is probably most apparent in the use of traditional Arabic instruments. Some of these instruments include the takht, violin, \'oud, ney, dumbek, rabab, riq and qanún. Other instruments may include jowza santur riq and dumbek, which make up the chalghi ensemble.
